Concerns:

1. As healthcare employers merge, and CON restricts startups, healthcare workers have fewer choices of places to work. Having "captive" employees means that employers can get away with more abusive practices.
   Can more law, however specific, end these abuses without addressing their root causes?
   I'm thinking not.
   In fact, experience tells us that corporate health is really good at finding loopholes and workarounds.
   In addition, more law will bring its own unintended consequences.
   
   
2. The state runs licensing, regulations, and disability insurance for public employees.
   As licensing and regulations increase, and society becomes more difficult to govern, job postings for fire, police, and EMS are going unfilled.
   Like private businesses which increase benefits to attract employees, communities try to do the same thing through state law.
   Unfortunately, whatever the facts of job risk, this creates a two-tier healthcare divide. 
   In turn, the growing divide within communities increases resentment and job risk.

Yet, here we are with this agenda.

Consider your local nursing home kitchen - an ideal first job for youth. In the big picture, it could lead to a job as nurses aide, which for many (including me) is the first step onto the healthcare career ladder.

Is this as much off a small business rip-off as I think it is?

Independent doctors, chiropractors, dentists, PT, OT, SLP, massage therapists, nursing homes - the list of small healthcare businesses with at least one employee is endless. Bear in mind, if a solo practitioner pays themselves, they are considered one employee.

To quote the basic requirement straight from the bill (pg 20):

"... a state-facilitated retirement savings plan involving automatic enrollment payroll deduction IRAs for workers whose employers do not offer a qualified retirement plan."

Item 2 would appear to impact every healthcare employer in the entire state. 😲 Has anyone in Lansing ever seen a hospital bulletin board? Maybe we should consider just mailing one to every veteran....

Childcare is licensed, highly regulated, and caught in the web between lengthy and complex LARA and Medicaid rules. No one envies them their paperwork, or their liability to arbitrary enforcement.

At a guess, there's a whiz-bang worthless new program in the works, specifically designed to increase government spending and interference in our lives.

If enough people ask Question #1 (Is the crisis government-created?) they have a bare chance of cutting it off at the pass.
