FAQ: MHF Report Cards

by | Aug 6, 2026

We get a fair number of questions about MHF Report Cards. There is definitely more to this report card than meets the eye! This year, the 4th annual edition captures 224 bills and produce scores for all Michigan legislators. That’s a lot of information for one tri-fold. We thank all those who reached out with questions, and welcome yours in the comments.

These are the frequently asked questions, with our answers.

Q. How can I use the Report Card? I’m not really political, I don’t have that many political friends.
A. MHF is nonpartisan. We believe that each of us benefits from stopping bills that make healthcare expensive and complicated. The Report Card may be your first contact with healthcare accountability. If so, we welcome you! We’re here to help you become as effective as possible.

Q. How does the MHF Report Card provide accountability?
A. During election season, candidates sign the MHF Pledge to not make healthcare more expensive, complicated, or bureaucratic.
Once they take office, we hold their votes on healthcare-related bills to that standard with the MHF Report Card.

Q. What if I can’t find my representative? Did they not vote?
A. Please open the tri-fold Report Card to find all Michigan legislators inside. The Report Card tracks state bills, so our US lawmakers won’t be there.

The numbers

Q. What do the numbers mean?
A. The number is the percent of that legislator’s votes that made healthcare less expensive and complicated. The highest possible score is 100.

Q. 224 bills over how long a period of time?
A. One calendar year. This year’s Report Card covers bill votes in 2025.

Q. What is the number of votes my legislator participated in out of the 224 bills?
A. Follow the link to get all bills, specific votes, health bill categories, and more. MHF Insights subscribers will get bill summaries and first notice when the full list publishes.

Where’s the bill information?

Q. I follow the Facebook, LinkedIn, and X posts, why don’t I see any of this during the rest of the year?
A. Practically nothing serious we do makes it to social media. Those posts are less than 10% of the work we do.
Sign up for weekly MHF Insights to get important bill summaries, plus MHF Forum links. There, we post the hundreds of bills in Michigan hearings, and perspective on every health-related issue throughout the year.

Q. Why did I get three different Report Cards this year?
A. Annual Report Cards allow you to see trends in healthcare freedom votes over time. Did the high and low score from the Michigan House and Senate go up or down during these years? What about scores for your Representative and Senator?

Q. If I follow the QR code, it takes me to the order form. Where do I see the list of bills used to rank and how the legislators voted on them?
A. We’re transitioning to a new system, so thanks for bearing with us.
Please order using the form you see at the link and QR code. (Don’t worry, we won’t send you more Report Cards if you already have some.) Instead, a reply email will give you the full bill list from last term, plus past online Report Cards. You’ll be the first to see the latest bill list and analysis if you remain a subscriber.
