By Alli Baxter & Trevor Drew - January 5, 2026

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A 23-year-old Thompsonville man is in custody after allegedly making threats of violence toward employees at Munson Medical Center, prompting a lockdown at the campus Monday morning, January 5.

Traverse City Police say officers were called to the 1100 block of Sixth Street around 6:36 a.m. on January 5 following a report of suspicious activity.

During the investigation, officers said they determined a 23-year-old Thompsonville man had made threats directed at Munson Medical Center employees. The suspect left the area before officers arrived.

With help from the Michigan State Police, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, and Central Dispatch, authorities located the suspect and took him into custody at approximately 7:50 a.m.

The man was lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail on a charge of making a false report of terroristic threats.

Police emphasized there was no active shooter at any time and no injuries were reported. Investigators say the incident was isolated and no threats were made toward the surrounding community.

Traverse City Police Captain Adam Gray says there is not an active shooting situation at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City Monday, January 5. Gray said there was an individual who made threats and that the facility is on lockdown.

Munson Healthcare officials stated local law enforcement are actively investigating a verbal threat of violence at the Munson Medical Center campus.

As a precaution, the facility has been placed on lockdown. No one is currently being allowed to enter any Munson Medical Center campus buildings.

Officials say anyone who is not already on site should stay clear of the area. Those who are on campus but outside a building are being instructed to return to their vehicles, leave the campus, and await further instructions.

People currently inside the facility are being told to shelter in place and avoid windows and doors.

Munson Medical Center Security is working alongside law enforcement as the investigation continues. Authorities say the situation remains active, and updates will be provided as we learn more.
