Comments from anyone using VA benefits?

I fought hard to pass the PACT Act — which was signed into law just over a year ago — and it’s been delivering long overdue VA benefits to thousands of toxic-exposed veterans in Michigan and across the country ever since.

Our veterans and their loved ones have sacrificed so much for our country, and this landmark legislation has been instrumental in providing folks the care that they need. But there are still thousands more veterans who are eligible for support. I recently met with Michigan veterans in Muskegon  on my motorcycle tour to highlight how the PACT Act is helping them and urge other veterans to register.

There’s no deadline to apply, but we still need your help to spread the word and encourage veterans to sign up for the benefits they deserve.

The PACT Act added 23 health conditions related to burn pits and toxic exposure to the VA’s list of service presumptions, including asthma, hypertension, and several cancers linked to exposure. You can find a full list by clicking here  and scrolling down to “What burn pit and other toxic exposure conditions are now presumptive?”. This law also expands the list of locations officially recognized as being related to Agent Orange exposure from service to include Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Guam, American Samoa and Johnston Atoll.

Veterans and survivors can access free toxic-exposure screenings by clicking here  and check if they’re eligible for the PACT Act, file claims and apply for benefits by calling the Veterans Administration (VA) at 800-698-2411 or filing a claim online for VA health care . For more information about the PACT Act, visit my website by clicking here .

As a former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, son of a World War II veteran, and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I know we have a responsibility to ensure our veterans and their loved ones can access the health care, benefits, and support they have earned.

Thanks for reading,

Gary Peters
United States Senator for Michigan
