@Pattie, such a good question.

It's sort of two questions: have they done any good, and do the do any harm.

Two emails from MDHHS regarding CON this week are typical.
Dated Dec. 4:

The Michigan Certificate of Need (CON) Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024 has been CANCELED due to potential inclement weather and hazardous road conditions and will not be rescheduled. The next meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2025, at 9:30 AM.

Additional information about future CON Commission meetings is available on the CON Webpage

And on yesterday, the 5th:

The Michigan Certificate of Need (CON) Commission determined at the January 2024 meeting that a Standard Advisory Committee (SAC) needed to be convened to recommend revisions to the CON Review Standards for Heart, Lung, and Liver (HLL) Transplantation Services.

The CON HLL SAC agenda for the December 12, 2024, meeting has been posted and can be found on the Standard Advisory Committee page of the CON website. Additional meeting details, including the location, can be found on the 2024 CON Meetings page.

In other words, an endless round of meetings. I honestly can't think of a single good thing they've accomplished, ever.

As for harm, there's plenty.

I explored How big is MDHHS, and the conflicts of interest when MDHHS (which provides mental healthcare) decided which psychiatric hospital got permission build in Grand Rapids.

I made the case for repeal in 2022. I haven’t changed my mind since then.
