For a measure not proven to secure health and safety, licensing is getting an awful lot of action in Lansing these days. 😭

The only good news in this whole line-up is in the final bill, a physician CE cut from 150 down to 75 hr/3 year renewal. However, there's a down side: that excellent provision is paired with a $250-500 fine for all professions who fail to produce CEs.

Licensing is unproven to ensure quality; conditioning licenses on continuing education, even less so.

Sometimes I think the health professions can't win for losing in Michigan.

"Surgical smoke plume" sounds ominous. We posted background facts, including the lobby involved, when the senate heard a similar bill a few months ago.

The primary question to ask is, "If it's a problem, why aren't the people involved already finding a solution?"

Answer: when necessary, they are. Usually with the suction device already on the surgical field. (At no additional cost of time or equipment.)

And how delightful to see elimination of even a small part of Michigan's many-faceted governing apparatus!
