Dr. Oumair Aejaz pleaded no contest to secretly filming himself abusing patients and will receive a minimum 25 year sentence on December 2, 2025. How much of this settlement will be paid out of your health care insurance premiums?
Oakland County doctor sexual abuse case settlement finalized, millions to be paid out
Henry Ford Health vows commitment to patient safety
By Erika Erickson - November 5, 2025OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A sweeping settlement has been finalized in the case of former doctor Oumair Aejaz -- $141 million that more than 8,200 former patients may expect to see within the next couple of months.
Aejaz, 41, is accused of secretly recording and assaulting former patients and others.
The class-action lawsuit filed against Aejaz, Henry Ford Health and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital Corporation was settled and finalized on October 31, 2025.
Court-appointed lead counsel Parker Stinar and Patrick Lannen told Local 4 the settlement brings “meaningful closure and compensation to thousands of individuals impacted by this misconduct.”
“Henry Ford did the right thing by coming to the table and working with us to reach this result,” said Stinar. “While no amount of money can undo the harm caused, this settlement provides a measure of justice and closure to those affected.”
The settlement includes former patients between January 1, 2018, and August 8, 2024, who “were treated, evaluated, or provided any professional services from Defendant Aejaz at any hospital owned or operated by the Hospital Defendants, including but not limited to the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.”
The Investigation
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard described Aejaz as “potentially one of the worst I’ve ever seen.”
The sheriff’s office said in August of 2024, they discovered that Aejaz had secretly been filming people -- from a 2-year-old to adults — at hospitals, a swim school, and inside homes.
Police seized six computers, four phones, and 15 hard drives, uncovering roughly 13,000 videos. Bouchard described one of the videos, saying, “a woman is basically unconscious in a hospital bed and he’s violating her.”
Aejaz was a contracted worker who held privileges at Ascension Genesys and Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals, though he was never directly employed by either one. Prosecutors said his wife alerted police after finding videos of women undressing and secretly recording their two young sons and relatives in their home.
“When something like this happens, it shakes the confidence of the whole community,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.
In October 2025, Aejaz pleaded no contest -- the same effect as a guilty plea -- to 31 counts of sexual misconduct in two separate cases. He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2, 2025.
Henry Ford Health reacts to settlement
In a statement to Local 4, Henry Ford Health said:
“We can confirm the settlement of the Jane Doe vs. Henry Ford Health System matter, which was filed by patients of an independent physician who once had privileges at our Macomb hospital. These disturbing allegations first came to light in 2024, and the settlement represents an important step in the healing process for the impacted patients, and our entire community. We are deeply committed to ensuring and supporting the safety of our patients and team members, and we prioritize that safety in everything we do.”
