Is more complex state regulation the answer to nurse aide shortages?
Nurses must now get special state permission to train nurse's aides. Until now, it was considered part of the job description: professionals teach the next generation. Entry-level for every profession was up to employers to hire and train, no state involvement.

Effective July 26, 2023, the Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Community and Health Systems, will transition the Nurse Aide Registry from Headmaster, L.L.P., to Michigan Nurse Aide, Training, and Enforcement System (MI-NATES), a new software program with the State of Michigan. This transition will impact new applicants as well as current registered nurse aides and permitted nurse aide trainers and training programs.MI-NATES WILL BE UTILIZED FOR:
- Nurse Aides, Trainers, and Training Programs to Electronically Submit Applications, Renewals, and Payments
- Nurse Aides to Print Certificates of Registration
- Trainers and Training Programs to Print Permits
- Nurse Aides, Trainers, and Training Programs to Review or Update Existing Registration or Permit Information
- Public Registry of Nurse Aides, Trainers, and Training Programs

The Bureau of Community and Health Systems is pleased to announce the launch of the Michigan Nurse Aide, Training, and Enforcement System (MI-NATES), coming soon on July 26, 2023.

Please review the important information and dates below:
- If you do not already have one, please create a MILogin account at MILogin - Login (michigan.gov). This can be done at any time.
- On or after July 26, 2023, follow the attached instructions to request access to MI-NATES and set up your user profile. Then, MI-NATES will be available as an application on your MILogin account for management of your nurse aide registration, nurse aide trainer permit, or your nurse aide training program permit.
