House Health Policy Aug 2026: banning health facility fees

We've all scowled at that line on the medical bill. What on earth is the facility fee?! It feels immoral, like a tax on breathing the hospital's air while getting the MRI, lab work, or procedure you came for.

Hospitals come in all sizes and operating margins, of course. People debate whether their survival depends on the facility fee. 

Georgetown University's Center on Health Insurance Reforms is mapping states that ban them.

So you decide. Will a ban lower hospital bills? Or would they just roll that line item into other charges?
